Geert Voet joined Bekaert in 1985 after graduation from the Catholic University from Louvain with a double major in engineering and a 13 months of military service as a reserve officer .
He started as a business consultant (Bekaert Stanwick) and moved as an expat to Brazil in 1988 to support the growth strategy of Bekaert in Latin America .
During his 12 years in Brazil, he worked for several Bekaert JV companies and built up an extensive experience in the field of project management, plant management, new business development and marketing and sales .
In 2001, he completed a program for executive development in IMD, and moved to North America, where he became VP Latin America in 2002 and VP Americas in 2003 .
Geert became SVP Wire Ropes/Advanced cords in 2011, an new business unit for Bekaert with the mandate to create a global business and has been growing this business ever since . In 2016, he joined BBRG as EVP Southern Hemisphere and Chief Strategy Officer .
