The original “SuperLine” Steelite is constructed with parallel-laid, HMPE sub-ropes encased in a polyester braided jacket. This product’s high strength to weight ratio makes it a strong replacement for steel wire rope. Its low elongation properties and unique compact splice make it an ideal choice for shorter lengths in slings. The non-load bearing jacket protects the core from damage and can be easily repaired. While the standard jacket is polyester, it can be made with HMPE or many alternative materials to suit the application. Its torque neutral core will not rotate under load or lose strength when wet and the rope is virtually weightless in water, but can be made to float.
Bridon-Bekaert manufactured the cable assemblies and provided installation and tensioning equipment and assistance for the Newport City Bridge in Wales, UK.
